Drs. Richard Damiano and S. Lance Forstot founded Corneal Consultants of Colorado in 1982.
Initially, the doctors focused their practice on what was then the emerging field of refractive surgery used to correct astigmatism following corneal transplantation. In the 27 years since, the art and science of ophthalmologic treatment has evolved, and so to has the practice. Today, Corneal Consultants of Colorado offer the latest in cutting-edge treatments for a wide range of eye diseases and conditions.
Drs. Damiano and Forstot are regarded as leaders in the field of ophthalmologic surgery. They are often among the first to adopt new treatments and procedures and regularly act as consultants to other physicians to solve problem cases.
Dr. Damiano is a board certified ophthalmologist and founding partner of Corneal Consultants of Colorado.
Dr. Damiano graduated from Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and his residency in Ophthalmology at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Dr. Damiano served as an ophthalmologist in the U.S. Army for two years before completing a fellowship in corneal and external disease at The Medical College of Wisconsin.
Dr. Damiano has had a distinguished career. He was the first physician in the state of Colorado to perform radial keratotomy and is considered one of the pioneers of the surgery in the United States. Dr. Damiano also developed the only surgical technique to correct hyperopia, or far-sightedness, that can occur following radial keratotomy. This surgical procedure has been in use for over fifteen years.
Since 1975, Dr. Damiano has served as a clinical instructor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He has also published and presented numerous papers.
Dr. S. Lance Forstot is a board certified ophthalmologist and founding partner of Corneal Consultants of Colorado.
Dr. Forstot graduated from Princeton University and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. After interning at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Dr. Forstot spent two years serving with the U.S. Public Health Service. He completed his residency in ophthalmology and a fellowship in corneal and external diseases at the University of Florida College of Medicine.
Dr. Forstot has been recognized as one of the nation’s top doctors of ophthalmology.
He is a recipient of an Honor Award and Senior Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and has served on numerous panels and boards throughout his career, including his role as president of the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists.
Dr. Forstot has served as a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is a frequent lecturer and author of numerous articles, abstracts and book chapters.
